Athletics Ministry Coordinator

Purpose: The Athletics Ministry Coordinator will be the ministry lead over all the athletics ministry’s (Athletes in Christ, Calvary Sports League). As well as support the high school and middle school ministries (Calvary Youth) to the best of their ability.

Regarding Athletes in Christ, a ministry that meets with high school student athletes at their schools during lunch hour to develop them into servants of Jesus. Our motto for Athletes in Christ is your identity is not in your sport but in Jesus. The Athletics Ministry Coordinator will be in communication with the high schools that we are already at (La Cueva, Rio Rancho, Valley) as well as focusing on making new connections with other schools to start up athletes in Christ clubs at new schools. The Athletics Ministry Coordinator will have to place orders and pick up pizza for lunch every week for the various clubs or coordinate with various leaders to pick up pizzas. The Athletics Ministry Coordinator will be responsible to communicate with the various leaders that are in involved at the various schools. The Athletics Ministry Coordinator will have to be able to step in and deliver a short sermon to one of the schools if a leader and/or an overseeing pastor is not able to attend. The Athletics Ministry Coordinator will need to be able to hold ministry interviews as well as finding and recruiting other ministry volunteers.

Regarding the Calvary Sports League, a ministry that works with young athletes K-5th grade with possible expansion up to 8th grade to develop their faith and identity in Christ while learning and growing in a sport they love. The motto for the Calvary Sports League is to learn to chase a ball well but chase Jesus better. The Athletics Ministry Coordinator will oversee all responsibilities required for the Calvary Sports League. This includes prepping for and giving a 5 minute devotional, the set up and tear down of the practice fields, contact with coaches, parents, players, and vendors for the various duties and reasons that include, planning practice/game days, communication the dates and time the practices/games will be held, maintaining and ordering new equipment if necessary, sending the devotional notes as well as pre made questions to help the coaches with the small groups, solving/addressing anything regarding a parent, coach, ect.

Regarding Calvary youth, a ministry that is designed to bring Jesus to the youth of Albuquerque. The Athletics Ministry Coordinator will attend meetings for both ministries as scheduled by the respective admins as well as assist on a weekend basis to serve and help alongside overseeing pastors, staff, leaders, and students. The Athletics Ministry Coordinator will assist the administrators in anything they will need help with as well as help in planning and overseeing games for weekly services, camp games, large events, ect. This role is for support and comes after all of the duties are fulfilled for Calvary Sports League and Athletes in Christ.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Prepare and present dynamic, weekly sermon that contains clear application.
  • Attend weekly youth staff meetings, as scheduled by each ministry’s respective administrator.
  • Plan high energy events, outreaches, or studies with attention to excellence
  • Plan and execute large and small-scale events, as needed
  • Pray with and train leaders and volunteers
  • Respond to emails and letters, as assigned.
  • Attend special events and concerts, as required.
  • Promotion of events via social media to extend the reach and impact on your ministry efforts in the community.
  • Provide oversight, training, and mentorship to any leaders and volunteers.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

  • Prepare sermons/messages for specific events, outreaches, or studies.
  • Prepare weekly study guides for small groups, as needed.
  • Work with Overseeing Pastor to prepare budgets.
  • Envision and collaborate on artwork for outreaches or events, as needed.
  • Contact and coordinate leaders and volunteers.
  • Coordinate with Overseeing Pastor relating to departmental vision and needs.
  • Contacting first-time student-athletes & helping them get connected.
  • Determining weekly leader and volunteer roles and responsibilities
  • Run various errands as needed.
  • Coordinate with the church’s social media team to highlight ministry activities.
  • Schedule and lead (or host) planning meetings per event
  • Manage ministries’ budgets.
  • Coordinate with vendors if necessary.

SKILLS, QUALITIES, & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Qualities of a bishop as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:7-9
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • A willingness to participate in a one year course that will be taught by a pastor on staff to learn how to preform ministry well.
  • One year of committed ministry involvement
  • A call to work full time in ministry
  • Possess a thorough and robust knowledge of scripture
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as to accept direction as needed
  • Ability to maintain and respect confidentiality
  • Proficient with Mac or PC systems and programs as well as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Graphic design and video skills preferred
  • Strong public speaking, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Integrity, humility, diligence, energy, passion, charisma, a sense of humor, and an eye to aesthetics
